The Competitor
The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt with a White Bar (or Band), typically signifies a Black Belt “Competitor” or someone who is at the Black Belt Ability level, but has not taken an Instructor course or does not teach classes.

The Coach
The BJJ Black Belt with a Red Bar (or Band) signifies a Black Belts ability to Teach. While this is the most common Belt awarded to Black Belts, these Belts are usually reserved for Coaches who teach classes or who have completed an organizations “Instructor Program”.

The Professor
The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt with a Red Band (or Bar) and White Stripes, is significant to separate the Head Instructor or a Professor of the Academy. The White Instructor Stripes usually come after several years of teaching.
